Cathedral Solitaire Engagement Rings, grown in light.

Arched shoulders that lift the center. In a cathedral solitaire engagement ring two arches of metal rise from the shank to the head and raise the center you pick next. The effect is tall and architectural. Designs here differ in their galleries and shanks, and settings begin under $200 in gold, platinum or silver.

Why the arches matter

The arches add height and brace the head from two directions. In profile they trace a vaulted ceiling, the source of the name. That lift also leaves space below the stone, so a cathedral setting solitaire ring usually pairs with a straight wedding band.

Galleries and band details

  • Tulip or petal gallery: carved metal beneath the center, seen in profile.
  • Openwork and scroll cut-outs: light passes through the arches.
  • Split shank or channel set band: extra metal, or lab-grown diamond accents set in a track, for a bolder look.

A few designs narrow the shank as it nears the head; others keep it plain and even.

Shapes and metals

Emerald is offered on every design, and radiant, pear, cushion and princess on most. Round and oval appear on some. Gold is white, yellow or rose in 10K, 14K or 18K; platinum is on every design. Silvadium, a tarnish-resistant sterling silver, suits a cathedral solitaire ring with a cooler tone.

Wearing a raised solitaire

A taller head catches more easily, so turn the ring palm-side when reaching into pockets. Brush the gallery gently with sudsy lukewarm water; carved and openwork areas collect lotion that dulls the center from below.

Ring questions, answered.

How do I choose an engagement ring?

Start with the shape she loves, then the setting style. Our gemologists can help you balance carat, cut and budget on a free video call.

Can I build my own engagement ring?

Yes — pick a setting, then a diamond, and review the finished ring before it goes to the bench.

Does the diamond price include the setting?

Diamond and setting are priced separately in the ring builder, and the total is shown before you add the ring to your bag.

How do I find my ring size?

Use our ring size guide, or order a free ring sizer — it arrives in 2–3 days.

Can I return or resize my ring?

You can return it within 30 days (a 10% restocking fee applies to resized or engraved pieces), and your first resize within 60 days of delivery is free.

Should I insure my engagement ring?

We recommend it. Every ring ships fully insured; once it is yours, a separate jewelry insurance policy covers loss, theft and accidental damage.
