Reading the filigree
Filigree here means a pierced scroll pattern in the gallery and side walls, the part of the band you see from the side. It lets a broad-looking band feel airy and lends a vintage air even when the top row is simple shared prongs.
Half eternity or a shorter row
- Half eternity: a crescent of stones across the visible half, with smooth metal on the palm side.
- Center row: a shorter line of stones framed by milgrain, quieter and easy to stack.
Carat and gold color
Options span 0.15 to 0.5 ct tw, counting all the lab-grown diamonds on the ring together. Yellow gold shows the scroll pattern most clearly; white gold reads cooler and lets the row of stones lead; rose gold softens the vintage look. Gold comes in 10K, 14K or 18K.
Care for openwork
Pierced scrolls trap hand cream sooner than solid metal does. Let the band sit in a cup of lukewarm, lightly soapy water, then brush the gallery gently from the inside with a soft toothbrush. Paired with an engagement ring of matching height, the two edges line up neatly.
